How Discord and Instagram crop your PFP
Both apps ask you to upload a square and then show it as a circle, cutting the corners. Discord also lets you zoom and reposition after upload, and Instagram crops automatically to the center. Neither app publishes a strict pixel size for profile pictures, so the safest approach is a square large enough to stay sharp, with your face in the middle third.

What size should a PFP crop be?
Crop at the largest square your photo allows, then resize to around 400 to 1080 pixels if you want a smaller file. Very small uploads (under about 200 px) look soft on phone screens with high pixel density.

For logos, leave about 10 percent padding on every side so nothing touches the circle edge.

For drawn characters and fan art, choose the face and a bit of the hair or outfit for a recognizable avatar. Save as PNG to keep clean lines, or JPG for a smaller file. Always make sure you have permission to use artwork that someone else created.
