How to use the JPG to PNG tool
- Drop one or more JPG files into the box.
- Wait a moment while each file is converted.
- Download each PNG, or all of them as a ZIP.
When PNG is the better choice
PNG is a lossless format: once saved, it never loses more detail no matter how many times you edit and save it again. That makes it a good working format for images you plan to keep editing, add text to, or place in a design program.
Things to know
Converting a JPG to PNG will not bring back detail that the JPG already lost, and it will not make the background transparent by itself. PNG files are also usually larger than JPGs, so for photos on a website a JPG or WebP is typically the lighter option.
Batch conversion
Select a whole folder of images and they are converted one after another. Each file keeps its name with a new .png extension, and a single button bundles them into a ZIP for easy saving.
Safe for private images
The conversion uses your browser's built-in image engine, so scanned documents, screenshots and family photos stay on your device the entire time.
JPG, JPEG and .jpeg: the same thing
JPG and JPEG are two names for exactly the same format. The three-letter .jpg ending comes from older versions of Windows, which only allowed three-letter extensions. Whichever ending your file has, this converter accepts it and saves a clean .png file.
When not to convert
If your only goal is a smaller file, converting to PNG will do the opposite. Use the compress tool instead. Convert JPEG to PNG when you need lossless editing, when a design tool or upload form insists on PNG, or when you plan to add sharp text and graphics on top of a photo.
Batch tips
When converting many files, the PNGs are listed in the same order you selected them. Large photos produce large PNGs, sometimes 10 MB or more, so a ZIP download is the easiest way to keep them together. If size becomes an issue, reduce the pixel dimensions with the bulk resizer before converting.
Using the PNG afterwards
Once you have the PNG, you can open it in the resize tool to change its size, or use a design app to add transparency or text.
Frequently asked questions
Is PNG better quality than JPG?
PNG preserves exactly what it is given, but it cannot restore detail already lost in a JPG.
Will the background become transparent?
No. Removing a background needs a separate editing step.
Why is my PNG bigger?
Lossless compression keeps every pixel, so files are larger than JPGs.
Can I convert many files at once?
Yes, select multiple JPGs and download them all as a ZIP.
How do I change a .jpeg file to PNG?
Drop the .jpeg file into the box above and download the PNG. No settings are needed.
