How to use this preset
- Choose your photo or signature scan; the 20 KB JPG target is already set.
- If your notice gives pixel or cm dimensions, switch to pixel mode and enter them first.
- Switch back to KB mode and press Resize image.
- Check the size shown under the preview (it should read between 10 and 20 KB) and download.
Which uploads ask for 10 to 20 KB
A 10 to 20 KB window is most often used for signatures on Indian recruitment and exam portals, not for photos. A signature is mostly white paper with a few dark strokes, so it fits easily into 20 KB while staying sharp. Here are two current examples:
| Portal | What is 10-20 KB | Other rule |
|---|---|---|
| SSC (CGL, CHSL, Steno, GD 2026) | Signature, JPEG | About 6.0 x 2.0 cm; the photo is captured live, not uploaded |
| IBPS (NABARD 2026 notice) | Signature, 140 x 60 px | Photo is separate: 200 x 230 px, 20-50 KB |
Limits taken from the official notices listed, checked in October 2026. Rules change between exam cycles, so always confirm the numbers in your own notice before uploading.
Hitting a minimum and a maximum
A range such as 10-20 KB means the file can also be rejected for being too small. The tool aims just under the top of the range, usually 16 to 20 KB, which clears both ends. If a portal reports "file size too low", raise the pixel dimensions a little and resize again.
Tips for a clean 20 KB file
- Crop tightly first with the crop tool; empty margins waste the budget.
- Keep JPG. PNG cannot reliably get this small for photos.
- DPI does not change file size. Portals check KB and pixels, not the DPI tag.
- For a 140 x 60 signature box, use the signature resizer; for a 20-50 KB photo, use resize image to 50KB.
Need a different limit? The resize image in KB page takes any target.
How the tool reaches 20 KB
A phone photo is usually 2 to 5 MB, more than one hundred times the limit. The tool first tries saving at different JPG quality levels and keeps the highest one that fits. If quality alone is not enough, it reduces the dimensions in small steps and tries again. The result is the sharpest picture that still stays at or under 20 KB, rather than a needlessly blurry one.
Get a better result
Crop the photo to just your head and shoulders before resizing. A tightly cropped portrait has fewer pixels to store, so more of the 20 KB budget goes on your face rather than the background. A plain, light background also compresses much better than a busy room. If the form gives exact pixel dimensions, set those first in pixel mode, then switch to KB mode.
Frequently asked questions
Can I resize a photo to exactly 20 KB?
The tool aims for the largest file at or below 20 KB, usually 17 to 20 KB, because forms reject anything above the limit.
Why is my 20 KB photo blurry?
The original was very large. Crop it closer and use a plain background so the limited space is used for detail.
How do I resize an image between 10 KB and 20 KB?
Keep the 20 KB target and press Resize image. The result lands just under 20 KB, which is inside a 10-20 KB range. If it is rejected as too small, increase the pixel size slightly and try again.
How do I resize a JPEG image to 20 KB?
Add the JPEG here. The 20 KB target and JPG output are preset, so you only press Resize image and download.
How do I resize an image to 20 KB with a set width and height in cm?
Convert cm to pixels first: at 200 dpi, 6 cm is about 472 px and 2 cm about 157 px. Enter those in pixel mode, then switch to KB mode with a 20 KB target. Check your notice, as some list pixels directly.
