How to use the Crop Image tool
- Choose an image from your device.
- Pick a ratio such as 1:1 or 16:9, or keep Free for any shape.
- Drag the frame to move it and the round handle to resize it, or type exact pixel values.
- Press Crop image and download the result.
Frame your subject
Cropping removes distractions around the edges and puts attention on the person or product you want people to see. It is also the right way to change an image's shape: instead of squeezing a wide photo into a square, crop it to a square so nothing gets distorted.
Presets for every platform
Square 1:1 suits profile pictures and many shop listings. 4:5 is the tall portrait shape preferred by social feeds, 9:16 fills a phone screen for stories and reels, and 16:9 matches video thumbnails and website banners. 4:3 is a classic photo shape that prints well.
Pixel-perfect control
If you need exact numbers, type the X and Y position plus width and height in the boxes. The values always refer to the real pixels of the original image, not the smaller preview on your screen, so the result is exactly what you entered.
Works on touch screens
The crop frame responds to fingers as well as a mouse, so you can crop comfortably on a phone or tablet. Pair it with the resize tool afterwards if you also need a specific final size in pixels or kilobytes.
Perfect PFP crops
For a profile picture (PFP), choose 1:1 and place your face slightly above the center of the frame. Most apps show profile photos as circles, so leave a little space around your head and shoulders so nothing important falls into the corners that get hidden. Export at 400 pixels or more so the picture looks sharp on high-resolution screens.
Crop image with aspect ratio, step by step
Choose the ratio button first, then drag the frame into place. The frame keeps its shape while you resize it with the corner handle, so you cannot accidentally break the ratio. If a platform asks for an exact size such as 1080 x 1350, crop at 4:5 here and then use the resize tool to set the final pixels.
Frequently asked questions
Can I crop to an exact pixel size?
Yes. Type the width and height into the boxes, then press Crop image.
Does cropping reduce image quality?
No. Cropping only removes pixels at the edges; the remaining area keeps its full resolution.
Can I crop a circle?
This tool crops rectangles and squares. Many platforms apply the round mask themselves, so a 1:1 square crop is usually what you need.
Is my image stored anywhere?
No. It stays in your browser memory and is gone when you close the tab.
How do I crop a profile picture?
Choose the 1:1 ratio, drag the frame over your face, press Crop image and download. Our PFP crop page has this ready for you.
