⚙ Preset: 1080 x 1080 px square (1:1), JPG

Resize Image to Square (1:1)

Resize image to square (1:1) in one step: the tool center-crops your rectangle photo to a square and sets 1080 x 1080 pixels. Change the size for any platform or form.

Settings loaded: 1080 x 1080 px square (1:1), JPG. You can still change them after adding your image.

How to use this preset

  1. Add your photo.
  2. 1080 x 1080 is preloaded. Change both boxes together for another square size (512, 1000, 2000).
  3. Press Resize image. The sides are cropped evenly so the subject stays centered.
  4. Download the square JPG.

Square uploads that are required, not optional

For social media, a square is a style choice. For some official forms it is a rule. The India e-Visa asks for a photo whose height equals its width, and the U.S. DS-160 and DV lottery forms require square JPEGs. A rectangular phone photo will be rejected by these upload checks. Make it square here, then use the matching preset to get the exact pixels and file size: DS-160 photo, DV lottery photo or compress to 1MB for the India e-Visa.

Rectangle to square: crop or pad?

This preset crops: the longer side is trimmed equally on both ends, so a landscape photo loses its left and right edges. That is right for portraits and products. To keep the entire picture instead, you need padding (plain bars added to the short sides), which is the "without cropping" option people look for for Instagram. Padding is a design-app job; here you can at least choose the crop yourself in crop image with the 1:1 ratio before resizing.

Where square images are used

Instagram posts, many profile pictures, product thumbnails, album covers and marketplace listings often expect a 1:1 square. Uploading a square you framed yourself stops the app from cutting off the wrong edges.

Framing tips

Keep faces slightly above the center. For products, leave a little padding so the crop does not clip corners. If you need a different focus, crop to 1:1 with the crop tool first, then come back for the exact pixel size.

Common square sizes

1080 x 1080 for Instagram. 400 to 1000 for profile pictures. 2000 x 2000 for print-ready product shots. This page starts at 1080.
