⚙ Preset: Output PNG, lossless, transparency kept

PNG Resizer: Resize PNG and Keep Transparency

Resize PNG images without losing transparency: this PNG resizer saves as PNG, so transparent backgrounds, sharp edges and text stay exactly as they were, only at the new size.

Settings loaded: Output PNG, lossless, transparency kept. You can still change them after adding your image.

How to use this preset

  1. Add a PNG image.
  2. Enter the new width (height follows) or use percent mode.
  3. Press Resize image; output stays PNG.
  4. Download your resized PNG.

Resize PNG without losing quality

PNG is lossless, so saving a PNG never adds blur or JPG-style blocks. The only thing that changes quality is the pixel size. Shrinking is safe: you lose pixels but edges stay clean. Enlarging is where PNGs get soft, because the tool has to invent pixels between the existing ones. As a rule, you can scale a logo or icon down to any size, but scale it up by no more than about 2x. Beyond that, export it again at a larger size from the original design file.

Keeping transparency intact

The alpha channel (the transparency) is kept through the resize as long as the output stays PNG. Converting to JPG fills the transparent areas with a solid color, which is the usual cause of "my logo got a white box". If you need a small file and transparency, stay with PNG and reduce the dimensions; for a very small file without transparency, use PNG to JPG.

PNG resizer vs Canva and design apps

Canva and similar apps can resize PNGs, but the free plans often limit custom export sizes or transparent backgrounds. This page needs no account: drop the file in, type the pixels or percent and download. For favicons, convert the resized PNG with PNG to ICO.

Correct pixel sizes for PNG graphics

Graphics are usually needed at specific sizes: 512 x 512 for app icons, 1200 pixels wide for blog images, 2x versions for retina screens. Type the width you need and the height updates with the ratio lock on. For exact squares from a non-square logo, crop first or unlock the ratio if a small stretch is acceptable.

PNG file size

Making a PNG smaller in pixels also makes the file smaller, but PNG cannot use a quality slider like JPG. If you need to hit a strict KB limit and transparency is not needed, try our compress tool, which converts to JPG or WebP. For transparent images under a size limit, WebP is the best choice.

Example uses

A web designer exporting icons might take a 1024 pixel PNG and save 512, 256 and 128 pixel versions. A shop owner might resize a transparent product cut-out to 1000 pixels so it fits a theme without slowing the page. A student might shrink a large diagram to 1200 pixels before adding it to slides. In each case, PNG output keeps clean edges and transparency. Run the result through the PNG to ICO converter if you also need a favicon.

Frequently asked questions

How do I make a PNG file smaller?

Reduce its pixel size here, or convert to WebP/JPG with the compress tool.

Can I resize PNG by percent?

Yes, switch to percent mode.

Can I resize a PNG for a favicon?

Yes, but for a real favicon file use our PNG to ICO converter, which packs several sizes into one .ico.

Does it work with screenshots?

Yes, screenshots are usually PNG and keep crisp text when resized here.

How do I resize a PNG without losing quality?

Shrink it rather than enlarge it, and keep PNG as the output format. PNG is lossless, so only the pixel count changes.

Can I resize a PNG without losing transparency?

Yes. This page saves as PNG, which keeps the alpha channel. Converting to JPG is what removes transparency.

Can you resize a PNG file in Canva?

Yes, but some export sizes and transparent backgrounds may need a paid plan. This resizer is free and needs no account.
